Orange Fruit Cake

Orange fruit cake with a slice cut, topped with glazed orange segments.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2/3 cup sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup nut meats
  • rind of 1 orange
Yield: 24 Servings
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour

Instructions

Put orange rind and raisins through medium-fine chopper. Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs and beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with sour milk. Add vanilla. Fold in fruit and nuts. Bake in tube pan 1 hour at 350° . Add 1/2 cup sugar to juice of orange and pour over cake while hot.
