We are committed to maintaining our buildings responsibly, serving our community while being good stewards of public funds. In 2023, we collaborated with HBM Architects and Interior Designers, to develop a 10-year Master Facilities Plan and address necessary repairs and updates. These recommendations — shaped with input from our community — outline assessments, space considerations, and cost estimates.

Thanks to funding from the local levy, we are moving forward with critical projects identified in the plan. Major projects include roof replacement, HVAC improvements, and branch upgrades.

Current Facilities Projects

Tremont Road Branch Roof Replacement

Construction is in progress on a complete replacement of the roof at the Tremont Road Branch. This branch is open during construction, but please pardon some additional noise and temporary area closures while work proceeds. Once the exterior work is completed, repairs to leak-damaged ceiling areas will begin. We expect all work to be completed by the end of 2026.

Miller Park Branch furniture and shelving refresh

The Miller Park Branch will close October 31, 2026 and reopen November 30, 2026 for improvements and repairs. The building will undergo an interior refresh that includes a flexible layout with new shelving and furniture. The back of the building will be more open to accommodate youth programming, while the front will be made more comfortable and functional for adults. We’ll also give greater prominence to our popular materials and Quick Pick collection. Building maintenance items such as painting, flooring repairs, and plumbing improvements will also be addressed during the closure.

2026 and beyond

• Create a Tremont Library Renovation Task Force composed of stakeholders, Board members, and community members provide recommendations regarding the renovation and long-term vision for the Tremont Library, informed by the 10-year Master Facilities Plan and the conceptual recommendations provided by HBM Architects and Interior Designers.
• Planning of phased renovations at the Tremont Road Branch with a focus on functionality and space utilization, contingent upon finalized scope, design, and cost considerations.
• Enhance Miller Park Branch with updated furniture and shelving (estimated November 2026).
• Complete construction of Tremont Road Branch roof and ceiling repairs (estimated December 2026).

2025

• The renovated Lane Road Branch opened on July 7, 2025.
• Begin assessment and design of Tremont Road Branch roof in Fall 2025.
• Begin planning of furniture and shelving refresh at Miller Park Branch.
• Continue urgent maintenance and repairs at all branches.

2024

• Address urgent maintenance repairs and replacements at all branches.
