Dutch Refrigerator Cookies

Sliced Dutch refrigerator cookies on a white plate, dusted with powdered sugar, and garnished with walnuts.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter or oleo
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 cup sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Yield: 72 Cookies
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 7 minutes

Instructions

Cream together butter and sugars; add egg and beat well. Sift together dry ingredients. Stir into creamed mixture. Add nuts. Shape in rolls about 2 1/2 inches across. Wrap in waxed paper and chill thoroughly. Slice very thin, 1/8 inch or less. Bake 1 inch apart on lightly greased cookie sheet at 375°, 5 to 7 minutes or until delicately browned. Remove at once to rack. Makes 5 to 6 dozen.  

Very good with coffee.
