Ace School Assignments with Explora!

Explora is an interface that offers simple searches of a collection of magazine and newspaper articles, essays, and primary sources, appropriate for homework and covering every school subject. Each profile will search sources at the appropriate school level. There is also an Explora geared toward adult researchers and college students with the same simple-search features.

In addition to being easy to use, you can also access Explora on a mobile device, get topic ideas and suggestions, create a profile and save your research, get citation help, and many other useful features.

These Explora resources improve on and replace Searchasaurus, Kid’s Search, and Student Research Center, which have been discontinued.

Try it today! And keep Explora in mind for future school assignments.

UAPL is excited to announce that online access to the New York Times is now available to our patrons! By following a few simple steps, you can get unlimited access to articles on (no more paywalls!) inside or outside of the library.

Inside any of UAPL’s library branches, simply use one of our public computers, or use your device to connect to our wifi, then sign up for a free account at Then read all the articles you would like!

Outside the library, log into “My Account” on UAPL’s online catalog. Click on your name on the top, right-hand side of the page to go to your account information. Scroll down to find the NYT Complimentary Access code on the bottom right. Click Redeem to have this entered. You will have to create or log into your account. You will then be able to read unlimited articles on any internet browser or on NYT smartphone apps. This code will expire after three days (72 hours). When that happens, go back to your UAPL catalog account to redeem it again, and as often as you would like!

Explora High School

Searches the contents of several databases at once, so high school students can find information and primary source documents on topics including language arts, business, careers, technology, science, math, and more.

Even better, to be able read all of the articles without hitting a paywall or having annoying ads interrupt you? UAPL provides its patrons with free access to ProQuest’s National Newspapers so they can do just that.

The fully searchable National Newspapers allows patrons to research events from the 1980s until now, across ten newspapers, including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, and more.

Students can research current events or articles for position papers; genealogists are able to search obituaries; business people and investors have access to Wall Street Journal and other current financial news from a variety of publications. Maybe you just want to read articles from the day's newspapers. There are many great uses for the National Newspapers database!
