Historical Newspapers

If you are interested in history, or are working on a school assignment and want to impress your teacher, Historical Newspapers is a useful and fascinating resource.

Proquest’s Historical Newspapers features both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, cover-to-cover, full-page images, going back to the beginning of both publications.

Use the Timeline feature to read articles written during the Civil War, both World Wars, or during the Civil Rights Movement. Explore Topics to find articles about the “horseless carriage,” the sinking of the Titanic, or the Watergate scandal. You can solve historical crossword puzzles and even browse through the newspaper from the day you were born.

Don't forget about our other premium resources covering magazines and newspapers, as well as our History Subject Guide, which features many more librarian-recommended sources for researching historical events.
