Join our ESOL discussion leaders for weekly conversation practice about current news events. This group is for non-native English speakers who want to develop their English speaking and reading comprehension skills.

It’s cold outside so join us for cocoa, tea and Perler bead awesomeness. Patterns and ideas will be available for fandom, snowflakes and other design greatness. Participants are welcome to work on a project of their own. Registration is required for supplies. Supplies may be limited.

Masters of Suspense: Hitchcock and Du Maurier

Our Winter film series this year is dedicated to exploring the work of motion pictures great master of suspense – Alfred Hitchcock. You are invited to watch three of Hitchcock’s films that are adaptations of Daphne Du Maurier’s gothic stories. In addition we will screen “Hitchcock”, a 2012 theatrical release that deals with Hitchcock’s life behind the camera. You are invited to Watch the movies on the big screen and later discuss the work in a lively post-show discussion led by film scholar Steven Hunt. We start the series with Jamaica Inn, the last movie he made in England before moving to the United States. In Cornwall in 1819 a young woman discovers that she’s living near a gang of criminals who are responsible for a series of engineered shipwrecks for profit. Winter Reading Club

Color away your winter blah’s with us! Readers of all ages are welcome to participate in our Winter Reading Club by reading and coloring. Grab a coloring sheet at any UAPL location beginning Jan. 9th, and for every day you read you’ll color one of the winter symbols on your coloring sheet. Be sure to turn your completed sheet back in before Feb. 19th to be eligible for the Grand Prize drawing in your age category. Winners will be notified on Feb. 20th by phone.

For children 0-24 months and their caregivers. Caregivers will learn songs, stories and rhymes to enhance personal reading time. These skills will help children build vocabulary, recognize objects, and build a foundation for reading and learning.

Tales for Twos and Threes Class

For children ages 2-3 and their caregivers. Songs, rhymes and stories teach children how sounds and letters relate to reading and will build a foundation for future learning. Interaction with instructors and other children encourages social development and allows caregivers to connect.
