Post-Impressionism: Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

Best-known today for his late 19th century posters advertising the entertainment scene in Paris, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec lived a remarkable life. We will discuss his revolutionary approach to lithographic posters depicting the Montmartre night life, the influence of Japanese prints on his work, and how his physical challenges seemed to affect his career. We will also look at Toulouse-Lautrec’s paintings, many of which show a great degree of experimentation with color, material and subject matter.

Presented by Ann Shifflet, instructor at Columbus College of Art and Design.
