For children ages 3 ½ to 6 and their caregivers. Children and caregivers will learn pre-reading skills through stories, songs and rhymes to help prepare them for their Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. Kindergarteners will continue to strengthen their skills. Skills include answering questions, repeating sentences, rhyming words and identifying sounds and letters.
UAPL’s Teen Advisory Board is hosting a poetry contest! To participate, write your own poem and submit a copy to any of the UAPL’s Youth Departments between March 27 - March 31. Poems are open to creativity but are limited to 500 words. One poem from each age group (gr. K-4, 5-8 and 9-12) will be chosen anonymously by the Teen Advisory Board, and each winner will receive a gold medal and will be featured on our website. Please include your name, grade, phone number and email address on your poem when entering.
For children ages 2-3 and their caregivers. Songs, rhymes and stories teach children how sounds and letters relate to reading and will build a foundation for future learning. Interaction with instructors and other children encourages social development and allows caregivers to connect.
For children 0-24 months and their caregivers. Caregivers will learn songs, stories and rhymes to enhance personal reading time. These skills will help children build vocabulary, recognize objects, and build a foundation for reading and learning. Some baby signs will be incorporated in this storytime. (Thursdays only)
