Gale Literary Sources

A variety of hardbound and paperback print books stacked messily.

In case you didn’t know, the UA Library subscribes to resources for our patrons to access to a wealth of information not available for free online. This includes our immensely popular subscriptions to Consumer Reports, Mango Languages, a variety of business and investment resources, and full text access to a wide variety of magazines and newspapers. All you need is your UA Library card number and PIN!

But there are many more hidden gems among our subscriptions! One example is Gale Literary Sources (formerly Artemis Literary Sources), which is the perfect resource not only for students working on literature projects, but anyone who loves reading (and reading about!) classic and contemporary novels, short stories, poetry, and more. Simply enter a title or author to search across thousands of resources for articles covering criticism, book reviews, genres, cultural analysis, and, in some cases, complete literary works.

To discover more gems among UA Library's subscribtions, click on Research at the top of this page and choose Databases, or simply go to databases.ualibrary.org. Narrow it down by what you are interested in by choosing a Database Topic on the left-hand side of the page.

And don’t forget, you can always contact a Reference Librarian by phoneemail, or in person for assistance in using our databases and eBooks.

For Those Who Love Literature and Reading...

The UA Library provides its patrons free access to some pretty great online resources, such as ConsumerReports.org, NYTimes.com, Mango Languages, a variety of investment and genealogy resources, and many more (see a full list at databases.ualibrary.org). It should come as no surprise that we also have online resources covering books and literature, so you can get the most out of your reading this summer!

Here are a couple of our favorites here at the library. You'll just need your UA Library card number and PIN to access these when you are outside any of our library locations.

  • Novelist Plus - Try this fun resource if you are wondering what to read next for Summer Library Club (remember, adults can participate, and earn raffle tickets, coupons, and a book prize, too!). This resource will help you choose fiction or nonfiction books based on certain factors, like what other titles you love, your favorite genres, and even by writing style, types of characters, and tone (or a combination of features!)
  • Gale Literary Sources - Have you decided to finally tackle that classic tome you’ve always been meaning to read, but need a little help understanding the plot or themes? Or are you ready to impress you book club with insightful literary analysis and author background for your current book? Even if you simply enjoy reading about books, this resource is a literature lovers dream! Search by title or author to get started.

And don’t forget, you can always contact a Reference Librarian by phoneemail, or in person for assistance in using our databases and eBooks.
