Explore Italy with Two Wandering Women

Two Wandering Women set out to explore Italy from the central Umbrian region, then south to the Amalfi Coast. Their travels take you from the religious icons and backstreets of Assisi to the underground caves or Orvieto. Cross the narrow land bridge to walk the ancient byways o the deserted village of Civita Di Bagnoregio - travel writer, Rick Steves’ favorite hillside village in Italy. Visit the coastal towns and villages of Capri, Sorrento, Amalfi, and Ravello where medieval villas, Byzantine architecture and ruins of Roman Emperor Tiberius’ last refuge make history come alive. Further south, the ancient temples of Paestum are the best examples of Greek architecture outside of Athens. A fascinating look at the famous volcanic ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum is included along with a visit to the Eternal City of Rome.

Great Women in Art History: Louise Elisabeth Vigee LeBrun

Learn about this remarkable French painter who was one of the few women of the 18th and 19th centuries in Europe to have a successful career in painting. Vigee LeBrun was the portraitist of Marie Antoinette, but, unlike her famous patron, survived the French Revolution and went on to have a career painting portraits of European aristocrats and artists well into the 1800’s. We will look at Vigee LeBrun’s most famous portraits and discuss her lively self-portraits, which were surprisingly controversial at the time. Ann Shifflet from Columbus College of Art and Design presents.
