Summary of Duties:
|
- Performs both general and intense cleaning tasks in assigned areas and prescribed routine, including but not limited to: emptying wastebaskets, dust, furniture, spot clean furniture, low and high dusting including ceiling areas, vacuum, sweep and mop, cleans shelves, light switches and fixtures, doors, desks, chairs, and blinds.
- Cleans meeting rooms, elevator and general public library areas including but not limited to set up chairs or tables, dust or damp clean, empties trash, spot clean doors, light fixtures, glass etc., low and high dusting, sweeps and mops.
- Exterior work to facilities includes but is not limited to sweeping and scrubbing foyers, sidewalks, ramps and emergency exits, removal of snow and ice, removal of trash from exterior bins and other areas, clearing of gutters, cleans and polish glass, metal and wood, waters plant material, picks up leaves and litter.
- Performs intense cleaning tasks to sanitize restrooms, including but not limited to cleaning and polishing all fixtures including commodes and sinks, polishes all glass/mirrors, empty waste baskets, spot cleans walls and doors, refills/replaces all dispensers, low/high dusting, emptying trash, sweeps and mops.
- Ensures that any maintenance problems that affect patrons and staff members are handled in a safe and timely manner.
- Understands occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Utilizes janitorial equipment and supplies including vacuums, scrubbing and polishing machines and carpet cleaners.
- Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and ballasts
- Submits supply requests and reports any conditions in need of repair to department manager.
- Locks the building and check all doors to ensure building security after library closes; turn out lights not in use; unlock building in the morning, turn on lights. Set and program security system as needed.
- Sets up for special events and programs that are offered to the public. This includes setting up for the Friend’s Book Sales and preparing meeting rooms for public use.
- Assists in training new staff in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Provides a clean and safe public facility both inside and out.
- Delivers and picks up books and other materials from all three branches of the library using the library van.
- Straightens public areas for neatness and safety
- Responds to patron questions and situations in accordance with library policy and in a manner to enhance the reputation of the library as a public service organization.
- Follows library safety and emergency policies and procedures.
- Reports maintenance and safety issues to supervisor.
- Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
|
- High school diploma or GED
- One year’s experience in the care, cleaning, & maintenance of facilities and grounds
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Competent in the use of Windows-based computer programs
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License, good driving record and proof of insurance required
