Ukrainian Art: The art and poetry of Taras Shevchenko

Explore the art and poetry of Taras Shevchenko, as we near his 200th birthday. This poet was born into serfdom and had firsthand experience of the neglect and brutality of a repressive government system. His work continues to be an inspiration to many. Understanding Shevchenko is a first step in understanding the recent efforts by the U.S. Government in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Presented by Myroslava Mudray, Professor Emeritus of Art History at The Ohio State University, specializing in Russian and Ukrainian avant-garde art of the 1910’s and 1920’s.
