Computer Services

The Computer Services Department provides Internet access and a wide variety of software.

Wi-Fi access is available at our Main Library and Lane Road locations, and most of our PCs offer Internet access plus word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Design and image-editing software packages are also available on select workstations.

All patrons using the Internet must adhere to UAPL’s Internet Policy.

Laser printing is available at all locations a cost of 10¢ per sheet, payable at the Circulation desk. Patrons may not use their own paper, nor is printing available for laptop connections.

Patrons are encouraged to use USB flash drives for easier data storage on our computers.

Patrons who bring their own laptops may access the Internet through 8 Ethernet connections at a table in Reference, or through Wi-Fi building-wide. We also offer:

• 30 Internet-browsing PCs with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Open Office software available throughout the library on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition, machines with further capabilities are currently located in the Media Services department. Please call ahead to schedule an appointment:

• 4 IBM compatible computers with CD-RW drives, 3.5-inch floppy drives, and Zip 250 MB drives. Software includes Microsoft Office 2003, Adobe CS Suite, WordPerfect Office Suite and OpenOffice. Two of these machines have scanners.
• 2 iMac G5 computers with DVD-R/CD-RW drives and 3.5-inch floppy drives. Software includes Microsoft Office Mac 2004, Adobe CS Suite, iWork 05, AppleWorks 9, and XCode IDE. Both machines have scanners.

• 7 Internet-browsing PCs with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Open Office software.
• 1 IBM word processing computer with Microsoft Office and Open Office.
• Patrons who bring their laptops may use Wi-Fi on the ground floor of the building.

• 2 Internet-browsing PCs.
