Healthy Garden, Healthy You: Planting a Garden to Attract Bees and Butterflies

Butterflies always provide a whimsical delight when seen in the garden. Monarch butterflies are particularly enjoyed! Bees are a “must” in the garden as pollinators for those of us who have a vegetable garden. Come learn what plants to grow if you want to encourage these insects to call your garden home.

Presented by Nancy Heber. Nancy Heber is an emeritus horticulture instructor for National Garden Clubs and has been a resident of UA since 1961. Nancy’s yard has been featured on multiple garden tours of Upper Arlington and Columbus through the years. Additionally, she has two nature photography books in publication. One is about gray squirrels and the other is about the metamorphosis of the Monarch butterfly.

The Post-Impressionists: Georges Seurat

Although his career was cut short by an early death, Seurat achieved much in the late 1800’s. He studied the Impressionists and devised a new style called Neo-Impressionism or Pointilism. Like the Impressionists, Seurat’s work often depicts the world around him, but his almost scientific approach to painting is unique and still fascinating today. We will look at his well-known works such as “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of the Grand Jatte,” and discuss how his interest in color theory influenced him artistically.

Ann Shifflet, instructor from the Columbus College of Art and Design is the presenter.
