Preschool Storytime Class

For children ages 3 ½ to 6 and their caregivers. Children and caregivers will learn pre-reading skills through stories, songs and rhymes to help prepare them for their Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. Kindergarteners will continue to strengthen their skills. Skills include answering questions, repeating sentences, rhyming words and identifying sounds and letters.

Community Book Discussion: How to Raise an Adult

Join counselors from Jones Middle School and Hastings Middle school to discuss “How to Raise and Adult” by Julie Lythcott-Haims. In this book, Lythcott-Haims highlights the ways in which over-parenting harms children, their stressed out parents, and society and large. The author offers practical strategies that allow children to make their own mistakes and develop the resilience, resourcefulness, and inner strength that are necessary to succeed in life. Lythcott-Haims is a mother of teens and is the former Dean of Freshman at Stanford University.

Tales for Twos and Threes Class

For children ages 2-3 and their caregivers. Songs, rhymes and stories teach children how sounds and letters relate to reading and will build a foundation for future learning. Interaction with instructors and other children encourages social development and allows caregivers to connect.

Preschool Parent and Me Yoga

In this partner yoga class for preschooler and adult pairs, led by Dayna Case, a favorite picture book will come to life with yoga poses. 1 child + 1 adult = double fun on your mat. Limited mats will be available; please bring your own if you have it and wear comfortable clothing to move and groove. Registration is required.

Sidney Poitier Retrospective

This year marks Sindney Poitier’s 90th birthday, an iconic movie star and a trailblazer who overcame the stereotypical portrayals of black people in American cinema. Our guest presenter, Linda Taylor, takes a retrospective look at Poitier’s career by showing movie clips and examining several of his groundbreaking roles.
