Art History: Frank Lloyd Wright's Commercial Designs

While he is sometimes thought of as a designer of homes, Frank Lloyd Wright’s public and commercial commissions were numerous. In this program, we will look at Wright’s many non-domestic designs, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City, the Unity Temple in Chicago, Wisconsin’s S.C. Johnson Wax building, the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, and others. We will explore how Wright managed to create innovative, modern designs in such large structures and how he integrated his ideas of “organic design” into those works. Presented by CCAD instructor Ann Shifflet.
