Juvenile Fiction Selection: Wishtree
From the author of The One and Only Ivan comes the story of Red, an old oak tree, and the neighborhood “wishtree”. People in the neighborhood write their wishes and hopes on fabric and tie their wishes to Red. This is a tradition many years old. When a new family moves in and is unwelcomed, Red tries to bring the neighborhood together, even when the tree’s own life is threatened. (For Grades 3 and up.)
Picture Book Selection: Bring Me A Rock!
Grasshopper, the King of the Insects, wants a magestic pedestal upon which he can sit. So, he commands all the insects to bring him a rock! But not just any rock will do and a tiny beetle's pebble is callously rejected. In the end, though, it is the pebble that saves the pedestal from falling. There's a lot of humor in this clever picture book, and also the message that big is not always best. Recommended for PreS-Gr 2.
