Tales for Twos and Threes

For children ages 2-3 and their caregivers. Songs, rhymes and stories teach children how sounds and letters relate to reading and will build a foundation for future learning. Interaction with instructors and other children encourages social development and allows caregivers to connect. No registration is required.

Book Buddies: Big Buddies

Help a younger student entering grades 1-3 with their reading during this five-week series! Do reading activities and coach them as they read to you. We meet each Wednesday, June 8-July 13 at 2 p.m. Mandatory training on June 8 will last 20 minutes; all other sessions will be 1 hour and 15 minutes. Teens must commit to 3 of the 5 weeks. Applications are available May 1 and are due by May 31.

Book Buddies: Little Buddies

Students entering grades 1-3 can practice reading with a local teen during this five-week program. Registrants must commit to at least 3 weeks. (Note weeks you will be unavailable during registration) A variety of reading materials will be supplied. Registration begins May 25 and will be limited by the number of volunteers we recruit.

Summer Astronomy Series

The Summer Astronomy Series returns to Lane this June! Faculty and staff from The Ohio State University’s Department of Astronomy and Physics will be giving presentations on our solar system. Afterwards, there will be hands-on activities and after-hours outdoor stargazing (weather permitting). Perfect for anybody interested in astronomy or just trying to get a closer look at the moon. Open to Adults, Families, and Teens.
June 23 – Dr. Don Terndrup will talk about why we have seasons (the same week as the solstice).
July 28 – Dr. Jordan Hanson will talk about the planets, the New Horizons Pluto mission, and the possibility of finding more planets!
Aug. 11 – Dr. Paul Martini will wrap up the series with a talk on eclipses and the upcoming solar eclipse that will be visible in the US in August, 2017.

Preschoolers: Let's Get Moving with COSI

COSI Educators will be here to teach you all about the human body - you’ll learn about what’s inside of us and how the pieces of our incredible human machines work together to let us play, dance, stretch, and more. Then you’ll get a chance to become physicians yourselves as you explore hands-on stations, including looking at real X-rays and using real doctor’s tools. For ages 3-6. Registration is required and begins June 10.

Walk Down Fines

Got fines? Patrons of all ages can join us at the Lane Road or Miller Park libraries to walk outside for approximately 20-30 minutes and receive up to $10 off of your existing overdue fines. Participants will walk a designated route that will be explained by the library staff upon arrival. Participants can begin walking at 10:30 and must be finished by 11:30. Be sure to arrive early in order to fill out the necessary form.

Children ages 3-6 are invited to join us at the Lane Road Library for Stories and Crafts. Each week participants will listen to books and then make a fun project. Children and caregivers will learn prereading skills through stories, songs, rhymes, and art activities. No registration is required.
