"Rockin' Pirate" Magic Show

Get ready for a magical treasure hunt! Is the crew searching for gold or for “Sedgie the Hedgie”, a live hedgehog? Using the book Who Stole the Gold by Udo Weigelt for inspiration, presenter Erica Carlson and her pirate crew will go on a 30-minute fun adventure to uncover magical buried treasure!

BYOP to the Library!

Bring your own picnic to the library lawn, relax and nosh as your librarians preview and recommend the great services, new books and materials available here at the UAPL. Program will be outside if weather and construction permit; otherwise, we’ll move into the atrium. No registration. Families welcome. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

STEAM in the Library: Shoe Box Cities

Our summer STEAM programs will focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and math. This week - come to the library to think about what goes into planning a city or town and then make one using shoe boxes and other supplies.

For grades 3-5. Registration is required and begins May 19.

Messy Day

One our most popular outdoor summer programs is back. Join us outside for finger painting, blowing bubbles, and creating artwork with sidewalk chalk. Children of all ages are welcome. Come prepared to get messy and have fun! No registration is required. There is no rain date for this event.

Bicycle Maintenance 101

Learn how to clean and maintain your bike so that your summer adventures don’t end before they’ve even had the chance to start. We will talk about cleaning, basic repairs, and answer questions. If weather permits we will be outside. You do not need to bring your bicycle for this program. Registration is required and begins May 28.

Mission: Nutrition with the Armstrong Air and Space Museum

Like on Earth, astronauts require oxygen, water, and FOOD. How does an astronaut’s pre-mission diet change during the mission? Participants will learn about the food pyramid and how to make good choices about what they eat, and can even sample freeze-dried foods like astronaut ice cream! For grades 1-5. Registration is required and begins June 2.

Summer Astronomy Series

The Summer Astronomy Series returns to Lane this June! Faculty and staff from The Ohio State University’s Department of Astronomy and Physics will be giving presentations on our solar system. Afterwards, there will be hands-on activities and after-hours outdoor stargazing (weather permitting). Perfect for anybody interested in astronomy or just trying to get a closer look at the moon. Open to Adults, Families, and Teens.
June 23 – Dr. Don Terndrup will talk about why we have seasons (the same week as the solstice).
July 28 – Dr. Jordan Hanson will talk about the planets, the New Horizons Pluto mission, and the possibility of finding more planets!
Aug. 11 – Dr. Paul Martini will wrap up the series with a talk on eclipses and the upcoming solar eclipse that will be visible in the US in August, 2017.
