Book Buddies: Big Buddies

Help a younger student entering grades 1-3 with their reading during this five-week series! Do reading activities and coach them as they read to you. We meet each Monday, June 6-July 18 at 2 p.m. (We are off July 4th this year.) Mandatory training on June 6 will last 20 minutes; all other sessions will be 1 hour and 15 minutes. Teens must commit to 3 of the 5 weeks. Applications are available May 1 and are due by May 30.

Keep Your Pets Healthy

Playing with your pets is a great way to keep them healthy. Come to the library and make a toy for your dog or cat. Bring some pictures of your pet(s) and we can share stories about our furry friends. Registration is required and begins July 2, 2016.

Make a Stop Motion Video

Curious? Come learn the process and make a Stop Motion video. Equipment and Legos will be provided but if you want to keep your video, bring a smart phone or digital camera. Registration is required and begins July 6, 2016.

Cooking Caravan Chef Battle

Join the Cooking Caravan on Wednesday, July 27 at 4:00 p.m. as they square off in an exciting “Iron Chef-style” cooking competition. A few lucky audience members will become sous chefs and the rest of the audience will get to sample the food and become judges. This is a fun, high-energy event that teaches kids about food and cooking. Chef Battle is geared towards kids ages four and up and their families, but all are welcome. Registration is required and begins July 13.

Summer Astronomy Series

The Summer Astronomy Series returns to Lane this June! Faculty and staff from The Ohio State University’s Department of Astronomy and Physics will be giving presentations on our solar system. Afterwards, there will be hands-on activities and after-hours outdoor stargazing (weather permitting). Perfect for anybody interested in astronomy or just trying to get a closer look at the moon. Open to Adults, Families, and Teens.
June 23 – Dr. Don Terndrup will talk about why we have seasons (the same week as the solstice).
July 28 – Dr. Jordan Hanson will talk about the planets, the New Horizons Pluto mission, and the possibility of finding more planets!
Aug. 11 – Dr. Paul Martini will wrap up the series with a talk on eclipses and the upcoming solar eclipse that will be visible in the US in August, 2017.
