Opera on Film with Christopher Purdy

We welcome Dr. Christopher Purdy as he presents the first installment in our summer Opera on Film Series, Lizzie Borden. An American Lizzie Borden is the best known opera by Jack Beeson. It is based on the real-life case of Lizzie Borden. It was written in 1965 and premiered on March 25, 1965 by the New York City Opera conducted by Anton Coppola.

Children and caregivers will learn pre-reading skills through stories, songs and rhymes to help prepare them for their Kindergarten Readiness Assessment in Literature Test ( KRAL). Kindergarteners will continue to strengthen their skills. Skills include answering questions, repeating sentences, rhyming words and identifying sounds and letters.

Join us for a screening of L’Orfeo , the second performance in our Opera on Film series with Dr. Christopher Purdy. L’Orfeo, is a late Renaissance/early Baroque opera and was composed by Claudio Monteverdi. It is based on the Greek legend of Orpheus and has the honor of being the earliest surviving opera that is still regularly performed today.
