Cari Mora by Thomas Harris

In Thomas Harris’s sixth novel, Cari Mora, Harris departs from the Hannibal Lector genre.  With his usual cast of interesting characters, Harris creates an action-packed novel.  Taking place in a Miami Beach house once owned by drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, two criminal organizations are finding ingenious ways to acquire gold that Escobar has buried under the house.  At the same time avoiding the steadfast ICE and FBI agents who are in constant pursuit.  A quick and exciting read!

Goodnight Mr. Wodehouse by Faith Sullivan

Living in small town America at the turn of the twentieth century is not easy for Nell Stillman. Shortly after moving to Harvester, Minnesota, Nell’s husband dies leaving her penniless and with a young son.

In spite of being a ‘woman alone’, Nell finds strength in the friendships she forges, and in the rich inner life awakened by the novels she loves. Her life is full and rich as she falls in love, teaches at the local school and volunteers at the public library. But it is when tragedy strikes that Nell truly finds within herself the courage and resilience to, truly, live on her own terms.

Good Night, Mr. Wodehouse celebrates the strength and resourcefulness of independent women, the importance of community, and the transformative power of reading.
