March arrived in a flurry and it looks like the the bad weather isn't done with us yet. Time to raise the white flag and surrender to your reading retreat!

The Columbus Dispatch recently printed an article on the joys of a room of one’s own: a reading retreat.  This has been the winter for one, but with the help of the UAPLyou  can create your own retreat any time, anywhere, and in any weather.  No contractor required.  Just put your nose in a book or your head in The Cloud.  We have books, movies, music, and information in all formats.  Whether you like the comfort of a book in hand, a movie, or music on your mobile, they are all portable.  Great for sunny days too!  Just remember this is Ohio, downpours and hundred-degree temperatures are just around the corner.  Surrender now!

  • Where’d You Go, Bernadette: A Novel by Maria Semple.  Bernadette lives in beautiful Seattle but it turns out her life there isn’t all sunshine.  She retreats to a colder clime to thaw out her frozen emotions.  With this scenario can you believe she’s also a MacArthur Genius? Where'd you go,Bernadette is a fast and funny read.
  • Still Life With Bread Crumbs: A Novel by Anna Quindlen.  Rebecca Winter is a once-famous, New York photographer. She's divorced, an empty-nester, and her career has stalled.  She retreats alone to an unglamorous cabin in rural Pennsylvania.  There she learns to widen her focus and begins to see the possibilities for another kind of life.
  • Serena by Ron Rash. What do Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Angelina Jolie have in common besides the Academy Awards?  Angelina Jolie bought the rights to the book. Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are slated to star in the film. Throw a log on the fire for this one.  It’s about the crazy love of a timber tycoon and his ruthless wife. Serena was described as the “Lady MacBeth of the Appalachians” by one reviewer. Ron Rash is a great writer. Serena  was a finalist for the 2009 PEN/Faulkner Fiction Award. Are you willing to surrender and lean into an icy wind bringing a story filled with with, deceit, melodrama, and a cold heart that doesn't know the meaning of retreat? Spring isn't here yet.
